Ron Mix is a Pro Football Hall of Fame member, attorney, author, and advocate for retired professional athletes whose career has uniquely bridged elite professional sports and legal representation. Over the course of more than six decades, Ron has earned recognition not only for his accomplishments on the football field but also for his legal advocacy and ongoing commitment to helping former athletes secure support, healthcare benefits, and workers’ compensation protections.

Ron began his professional football career in 1960 with the San Diego Chargers, where he quickly became one of the premier offensive linemen of his era. Known for his intelligence, athleticism, and consistency, he played ten seasons with the Chargers before spending two additional seasons with the Oakland Raiders. Throughout his NFL and AFL career, Ron became recognized as one of the top linemen in professional football history.

In 1979, Ron Mix was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats. His impact on football extended beyond the field, as he became known for leadership, professionalism, and advocacy for players throughout his career.

Following his retirement from football, Ron pursued a legal career and began practicing law in 1975. Over time, he developed a highly specialized legal practice focused on representing retired professional athletes in workers’ compensation claims. Recognizing that many former athletes faced long-term physical injuries and healthcare challenges after retirement, Ron dedicated much of his legal work to helping former players secure benefits and support systems they had earned through their careers in professional sports.

In 2002, Ron founded the Law Offices of Ron Mix in San Diego, California. Under his leadership, the practice became one of the largest and most recognized firms in the country focused specifically on workers’ compensation claims for retired professional athletes. The firm represented athletes from virtually every major professional sport across the United States and filed claims throughout California on behalf of former players.

For approximately 15 years, Ron maintained an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the organization’s highest distinction recognizing legal skill, ethics, and professional integrity as evaluated by judges and opposing counsel. His legal career became widely respected within both the sports and legal communities for its professionalism, experience, and dedication to client advocacy.

In 2016, Ron stepped away from legal practice following legal and tax-related matters and transferred leadership of his firm to his son, Charles Mix, who had already been practicing as an attorney within the organization. The firm evolved into Mix, Namanny & Berger, which continues operating today as one of the nation’s leading firms representing retired professional athletes in workers’ compensation matters.

In 2026, Ron was reinstated as an attorney and returned to practice as an attorney with Mix, Namanny & Berger, continuing his lifelong commitment to advocating for former athletes and helping clients navigate complex legal and healthcare-related claims.

In addition to his legal work, Ron currently serves as President of the Pro Football Retired Players Association, an organization that provides health benefits and support services to more than 10,000 retired professional football players and over 3,000 spouses of former players. Through this role, he remains actively involved in improving the quality of life and long-term wellbeing of retired athletes.

Beyond sports and law, Ron has also contributed commentary and published writing on sports-related topics in both local and national publications, including the Los Angeles Times. His perspective as both a Hall of Fame athlete and experienced attorney gives him a unique voice on issues impacting professional sports, athletes’ rights, and post-career health and financial challenges.
